[NEWS] Splatoon crosses the 1 million mark in sales

Nintendo a couple of days back announced a milestone for the now (almost) one month old video game, Splatoon.  The game has now sold over one million copies worldwide, and that figure includes more than 476,000 physical and digital units sold in the Americas, more than 368,000 sold in Japan, more than 230,000 sold in Europe and an additional 20,000 sold in Australia and New Zealand.

Numbers, numbers, numbers… well, in the end it’s a great boost for the ailing WiiU. Reggie adds to the announcement:

“This milestone puts us in a nice position as we prepare to launch 11 more exclusive Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games before the end of the year, plus amiibo, digital offerings and games from our third-party partners.”

I’ll have to say I have enjoyed my experience with Splatoon and in the coming months we will get more unlocking done up to the anticipated August major update.  Do you think more people will buy the game then? Still… looking forward to that postponed Splatfest event eventually!

[NEWS] Reggie Fils-Aime Doesn’t Believe Current VR Technology is Fun

This year’s E3 has been largely centered on what’s new with Virtual Reality (VR) technology.  Every major company seems to be releasing some kind of VR headset, except for Nintendo.  Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime was asked in an interview with Polygon about Nintendo’s lack of VR technology announcements.  Here is his response:

“We have knowledge of the technical space, and we’ve been experimenting with this for a long, long time,  “What we believe is that, in order for this technology to move forward, you need to make it fun and you need to make it social.

“I haven’t walked the floor, so I can’t say in terms of what’s on the floor today, but at least based on what I’ve seen to date, it’s not fun, and it’s not social. It’s just tech.”

Reggie seems to believe that the VR technology isn’t a “fun” experience and isn’t social enough yet.  So it seems as if Nintendo won’t be coming out with a “Virtual Boy 2” anytime soon.  Would you guys like to see Nintendo create new VR technology for their next console, codenamed ‘NX’?  Sound off in the comments below!

It is being developed by Platinum Games, who previously developed The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 for Wii U as well.  Miyamoto has announced that it is not a sequel, prequel, or remake.  It is more of a re-imagining of the series.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes has been announced for the Nintendo 3DS.  It will be a co-operative experience where you work with two friends to solve puzzles and complete dungeons.  It will use a similar art style to A Link Between Worlds.  You should still be able to play single-player with the game as well, however the game is a bit easier if you have two friends with you as well.

How did you like Nintendo’s E3 Digital Event?  Most people found it extremely disappointing, but I found it to be relatively decent for Nintendo.  It wasn’t their best digital event, but it certainly wasn’t their worst.  Let us know in the comments section below your thoughts on the latest Nintendo E3 announcements.
